In this collection of poems Janette explores motherhood, the loss of self in the process of raising children, the connection to whenua (land) as a Maori woman and memories from childhood.Janette describes the Collecting of Cobwebs as the overcoming of negative thoughts. After the birth of her first child Janette suffered post natal depression. In order to overcome this infliction of the mind Janette went about researching the disease and found strategies to help clear the negative dialogue that took place within. Janette’s chapbooks are designed as ‘concept’ books meaning that each book has the potential to be redesigned into various forms of art with their themes as the underpinning dialogue. Collecting Cobweb’s will be recreated into ‘The Blue Series’. A chapbook dedicated to highlighting Mental Illness with contributions from Australian and New Zealand poets with all proceeds of sales going to ‘Beyond Blue’. The ‘Blue Series’ will be released in October 2015 during mental health week.Renewal of ideas is the basis of Janette’s ‘concept’ books, whereas, she perceives the renewal as a process of clearing the cobwebs in order to allow new ideas, new direction and new growth.
